Green Towns Isle of WightGreen Towns is project being piloted on the Isle of Wight encouraging local communities to improve the environment, and accrediting successful communities as Green Towns. Green Towns are places where local people are making real efforts to reduce their negative impact on the environment and make a positive contribution through a variety of initiatives from encouraging insulation of houses to growing and selling local food, from planting wild-flowers to improving public transport.
Green Towns is facilitated by Natural Enterprise and delivered by local communities.

Green Towns is about local action at every level, from households turning town their thermostats a little to businesses reducing waste in production and distribution systems. Importantly it is also about communities getting together to identify and tackle their most pressing environmental concerns together.
Some Green Towns actions are highly visible with an immediate effect, like mass litter picks. Other initiatives are less obvious, such as helping people take advantage of money-saving insulation offers, helping both their pocket and the global environment. It's something anyone can get involved with, from joining the steering group to volunteering or simply doing your bit at home, work or school.
